ASRC 2021: Week 9

Hello everyone and welcome to another week of Literary Monopoly. You can find the rules here and fill out the form for participating here.

Now for what staff has been up to this week:

Elias: Again I rolled high and again I landed on a special space, this time having to leave a comment on a review. That's kind of hard to do in the format we've set up here but I did leave a comment on our Week 7 reviews (or, well, a comment on the review that wasn't mine.) I kept it short, if you choose to go read it. It's not my favorite thing to do. I prefer to talk about a review out with other people, to assess merits and as a scaffolding for the book/movie/piece of media itself. It's better than yelling agreements or disagreements into the void, I think at least. Let me know in the comments below if you agree or disagree with me :) .

I give leaving a comment on a review 3.5/5 stars.

Elizabeth: This week I rolled a 5 and landed on "Horror." As I've mentioned before, horror really isn't my genre. I chose to read the book Dread Nation by Justina Ireland. In it, the Civil War ended when zombies started walking the battlefields. Black and Native children are then forced to attend combat schools to learn how to kill zombies. Jane is a student at one of these schools and the novel outlines her experience. While the alternate history aspect of this book really appealed to me, I'm not a horror fan and as a result really disliked this book. 2/5 stars.

Let us know what you've been up to and we'll see you back here next week.
