The Literary Monopoly Board

To add even more fun, we're bringing back Literary Monopoly. The rules are simple:

  1. Roll two dice or type “roll 2d6” into google.

  2. Complete whatever task you land on.

  3. Comment about what you did on that week’s blog post (so for the week of 6/20-6/26 it's this one). We have a form so you can pick your raffle prize.

  4. Keep track of where you landed and repeat.

We've also got a Q&A on our ASRC 2022 page.

Every week we’ll be updating the board with initialized tokens to show where people are and leaving reviews from staff on where they are in the game.

Elias: To get ahead of things, I started my journey early and rolled an 11, landing on Romance. I didn't quite have enough time to read a romance novel but I was in the process of reading Maison Ikkoku, Vol. 7 which is a perfect fit for the category. A manga from the 80s (80-87, to be precise), it's being re-released stateside in a larger format. I love this series a whole lot - I even think I read a volume last year for this - and I'm very happy for the coincidence and chance to talk about it.

This is a classic will-they/won't-they comedy of errors and probably Rumiko Takahashi's best purely slice-of-life romantic comedy and maybe her best work ever. This volume moved many of the characters out of the complacency they'd been in and forced them to confront their feelings head on, even if the results weren't quite what they hoped or expected. Love quadrangles and gossipy neighbors abound, providing comedic relief from the heavier questions of love, obligation, and job hunting. If you're a manga fan, or even a rom-com fan, or even if you're not, check this series out. Just note that it is from the 80s so some of the humor can be a bit...dated.

5/5 Stars

We'll see you back on the 27th for the start of week 2! We can't wait to see what you've been reading.
