Here are our staff reviews for the week:

Elias: I rolled a 9 and landed on Watch a Video Lecture this week. I'd been meaning to watch some more episodes of Crash Course: Black American History on YouTube so I queued those up. Clint Smith, who hosts the series, does an excellent job of conveying the information without rushing, a problem some of the other hosts have, and I found myself adding more episodes than I expected to watch.

What this series is so good at is taking a very specific look at periods, people, and events and building stories that inform and elucidate lesser known, or often hidden, angles of American history through a Black lens. The "Reconstruction" and "Black Americans in the Civil War" episodes are excellent examples of that. They give enough context to dig into their themes and then dig into the specifics of certain times, actions, people, etc to further bolster our understanding of the era and its effects then and now.

Genuinely one of my favorite series to come from Crash Course in a long time. They're all good! This is just excellent.

5/5 stars

We'll see you back on the the 15th of August for the start of week 9!
